The Health & Fitness Industry Standards Council is seeking a dedicated academic with knowledge and experience in exercise science, health promotion, allied health or a related discipline to join the advisory council.

Background

Established in 2016, the Health & Fitness Industry Standards Council provides strategic guidance and expert recommendations to elevate the Australian exercise and active-health sector. Our work is grounded in four key principles:

  • Enhancing the quality of services provided
  • Implementing best practices
  • Improving health and safety through effective risk management
  • Establishing effective and transparent accreditation and professional recognition standards.

Role

As a volunteer academic advisor, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts in exercise service delivery, education, law, business, and risk management. Applicants should have a minimum of 10 years' experience in a respective field.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and contribute to the development of industry standards
  • Review and develop registration and accreditation programs
  • Review, support the administration of, and, when needed, change the AUSactive codes, policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Review and develop risk management frameworks and programs for the total quality management of the Australian exercise and active health industry
  • Provide independent expert advice to AUSactive staff, the Board and the public and undertake initiatives to support AUSactive
  • Step in to chair meetings when the elected Chair is unavailable

Meetings

Attendance at scheduled meetings is required (usually 6 per year). The Secretary or a delegate shall convene Council meetings as and when required, but no fewer than four (4) per year, including the Annual General Meeting.
