Bundaberg State High School has an exciting opportunity for a Head of Department - Junior Secondary to join our senior leadership team. Due to the increasing complexity of the welfare needs of students an additional school funded Junior Secondary Head of Department position will be created for
2026.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated passion and enthusiasm for fostering positive student/teacher working relationships that reinforce proactive initiatives to manage and support the welfare needs of our Junior Secondary students and local community, as the fundamental core
business for this position.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead the planning and implementation of welfare initiatives to support student attendance, engagement and success.

Step Into Your Next Chapter:

  • Develop the quality of teaching and learning by making informed decisions to support student engagement through the analysis of data and intimate knowledge of student welfare needs.
  • Lead the high expectations and accountability for student attendance, uniform, classroom behaviour, playground behaviour and supervision for management of programs and facilities.
  • Communicate and document student welfare needs between all appropriate school community members including, but not limited to executive team, senior leadership, guidance officers, youth support workers, indigenous support, special education, school nurse, year level coordinators, teachers and parents.
  • Play a lead role in the development and support of the school's flexible learning environment, catering for students showing early signs of disengaging from learning.
  • Build and maintain community connections and links to educational welfare programs and industry to support targeted welfare needs and pathway opportunities for students.
