What you'll be doing:
Provide trauma-informed, person-centred care across acute and primary care settings. Work closely with Aboriginal Health Workers, Counsellors, Social Workers, and an Aboriginal Program Coordinator to deliver culturally safe care that recognises the importance of culture, community, and country in healing.
This position is based in Cabramatta and involves travel across the South West Sydney region, working on the lands of the Dharawal, Darug, and Gundungurra peoples. As part of the Aboriginal Drug Health Team, you will be supported by an Aboriginal Program Coordinator and have access to a wide range of cultural supports, including:
- Cultural supervision and mentoring
- The SWSLHD Aboriginal Health Unit
- A strong network of Aboriginal colleagues across the district

Where You'll Be Working
SWSLHD Drug Health Services operates across the South Western Sydney Local Health District, providing a comprehensive range of treatments and interventions for individuals, families, and carers affected by alcohol and other drug use.
The services include inpatient withdrawal at the 'Corella' unit in Fairfield, the Opioid Treatment Program, outpatient clinics, and specialised teams such as the Aboriginal Drug & Alcohol Team and the Youth Service. - Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of the employees specified post-graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the public hospital or public health organisation.
- Describe your experience providing culturally responsive care, particularly in relation to drug and alcohol misuse within Aboriginal communities. How do you incorporate cultural understanding and compassion into your nursing practice?
- Provide an example of how you have worked collaboratively with Aboriginal clients, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to support care planning and engagement. What strategies did you use to ensure communication was effective and care was responsive?
- Tell us about a time you applied critical thinking and clinical expertise to manage a complex situation in a drug and alcohol setting. How did you demonstrate leadership, manage risk, and contribute to quality improvement?
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
