Under section 105 of the QLD Racial Discrimination Act 1991, to be eligible to apply for this role applicants must:

  • Be an Aboriginal person and/or a Torres Strait Islander person

  • Be accepted by their community as being an Aboriginal and/or a Torres Strait Islander person

Successful applicants will be required to provide a reference from an elder within their community where they currently reside.

This full-time role of Youth Housing Specialist [Identified] supports our mission by providing crisis, brief intervention and ongoing planned support to young people including BYS tenants, enabling young people to successfully transition into independent living.

You'll be a great candidate for this role if you:

  • Hold A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Social Sciences or comparable qualification OR substantial demonstrated experience in a related field.
  • Experience working holistically with vulnerable young people, including crisis intervention and ongoing support.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with young people and young families.
  • Experience conducting thorough assessments, including suicide and DFV risk assessments.
  • Understanding of community housing provider responsibilities under the National Regulatory System of Community Housing (NRSCH).
  • Strong organisational skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and advocacy skills.

Given the work that we do there will be a few non-negotiables. You'll need to be able to have, or obtain prior to commencement:

  • Working with Children Suitability Card [Blue Card].
  • National Police Check clearance.
  • Evidence of vaccination, immunity, or medical exemption for the following preventable diseases – Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella [Chicken Pox] and Pertussis [Whooping Cough].
