Are you passionate about shaping vibrant public spaces that meet the needs of the community? A council in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs is seeking a Public Place Projects Officer to join their team. This role is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of public place projects, while working collaboratively with internal teams, external contractors, and the local community
As the Project Public Delivery Officer, you will play a key role in project management, design input, stakeholder consultation, and policy development to ensure high-quality outcomes for public spaces. You will liaise with staff across council, consultants, and the public to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and aligned with community needs. The role also involves providing technical advice on public place planning and project delivery, managing budgets, and supporting continuous improvement in consultation processes and project reporting
Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, coordinate and deliver public place projects, ensuring compliance with council standards, budgets, and timeframes.
  • Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders, contractors, and community members to support project success.
  • Provide expert technical advice and contribute to policy, strategies, and guidelines for public place planning.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, budgets, and outcomes, maintaining clear communication with senior management and the community.
  • Identify and implement innovative, practical design solutions for public spaces.
  • Support contract management by briefing, supervising, and liaising with consultants and contractors.

Key Selection Criteria:
  • Tertiary qualification in Landscape Design, Project Management or a related discipline, or substantial relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated skills in public place planning, project management, and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of consultation techniques and proven ability to engage stakeholders effectively.
  • Budget management and reporting skills, with the ability to deliver projects within scope, time, and cost.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to liaise with contractors, consultants, and community groups.
  • Strong problem-solving, organisational, and time management abilities, including the capacity to work independently.
  • Current driver's licence.
