Sydney By Kayak is an Award Winning, Ecotourism Certified Kayak Tour Operator in Sydney, dedicated to providing unforgettable experiences on Sydney Harbour. We specialise in Sunrise Kayak and Coffee tours, offering bucket list experiences through breathtaking, iconic waterways, as well as Eco Tours, exploring diverse ecosystems. Our team is passionate about sharing our love for kayaking and conservation with our paddlers, ensuring they leave with unforgettable memories, incredible photos and a deeper appreciation for sustainability.

Position Overview:

As a Kayak Guide, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional kayak tours on Sydney Harbour. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety, enjoyment, and comfort of our guests, while sharing knowledge about the harbour's natural beauty, history, and wildlife. This position requires kayaking experience, strong communication skills, and a genuine passion for both people and the environment. And most importantly, we'd love for you to bring an element of fun :)

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-tour briefings and safety demonstrations for paddlers, highlighting safety protocols and environmental conservation.
  • Guide paddlers on kayak tours, showcasing Sydney Harbour's iconic landmarks, stories, and ecosystems.
  • Assist paddlers with kayaking techniques, ensuring confidence, comfort, and safety on the water.
  • Capture photos during tours to create memorable experiences for our paddlers.
  • Ensure all equipment is well maintained, including kayaks, paddles, and life jackets, and assist with setup/pack down each day.
  • Monitor weather and water conditions, reporting and discussing contingency plans for tours.
  • Assist paddlers at the boat ramp with professionalism and warmth, exceeding expectations wherever possible.
  • Uphold company policies, with a focus on safety, customer service, and sustainability.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience as a Kayak Guide (or strong recreational kayaking skills with a willingness to learn).
  • Current Flatwater Kayak Guide or Instructor qualification through Paddle Australia (or equivalent cert from another recognised body).
  • Excellent communication skills, with a friendly and confident approach to customer service.
  • Current certifications in First Aid and CPR (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong paddling skills and ability to confidently assist paddlers on the water.
  • A morning person with a warm, welcoming personality – sunrise tours start early
  • Passion for water sports, outdoor adventure, and environmental conservation.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to handle kayaking in varying conditions, as well as loading/unloading kayaks daily.
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays, based on tour demand.
