Leading Hand Roof Plumber / Roof Fixer – Competitive Salary + Company Vehicle

GBG Construction Services is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Roof Plumber/Fixer or Carpenter to take charge of day-to-day site operations on a range of commercial and residential roofing projects across South East Queensland.

This hands-on leadership role includes a competitive salary package and company vehicle, along with the opportunity to guide a skilled team while ensuring safety, quality, and project deadlines are consistently met.

As the Leading Hand, you will coordinate crews, oversee installations, and work closely with management to deliver high-standard metal roofing, flashings, gutters, and downpipes. Your ability to plan ahead, communicate clearly, and maintain a strong safety culture will be key to success.

Purpose of Role:

Perform manual labour tasks to support the roofing team under the general direction of the Project Manager. You will need to be hardworking, willing and physically fit for the job with a hands-on approach to undertake manual tasks. A sound understanding and working knowledge of OH&S, Environmental Management and Quality Systems must be demonstrated. As a key member in a team-based organisation you will need effective communication skills to work cooperatively with all crews/ other trades.

Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance:

  • ·Always demonstrate safe work behaviours that prioritise safety, quality, and productivity for yourself and your team.
  • Read and follow Workplace Health & Safety Plans, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documents before starting tasks. Refer to them regularly.
  • Complete a "Take 5" hazard assessment before starting any task.
  • Participate actively in daily pre-start meetings and weekly toolbox talks. Ask questions to clarify any uncertainties and sign all necessary OH&S documents.
  • Install signage and barricades (e.g., drop zones, material storage areas) to comply with OH&S standards before work begins.
  • Understand and adhere to relevant statutory requirements (e.g., local council regulations, EPA guidelines).
  • Follow GBG Construction Services' OH&S, Environmental, and Quality Assurance policies on all projects.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Never undertake or agree to unsafe work practices that could endanger yourself, others, equipment, or property.
  • Stop work immediately if you identify unsafe practices. Report these directly to your Leading Hand or Supervisor.
  • Comply with random drug and alcohol testing by GBG or clients.
  • Promptly report incidents or emergencies to Supervisors and complete the required documentation.
  • Support the company's rehabilitation and return-to-work policies if applicable.
  • Complete and submit accident/incident reports as soon as possible following any event.

Your duties and responsibilities include:

  • Follow all safety procedures, complete site inductions, and work in full PPE.
  • Arrive on time, ready for a full day of physical work.
  • Assist with the installation, repair, and maintenance of metal roofing, flashings, gutters, fascia, and downpipes.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials safely; check deliveries and report any issues.
  • Maintain a clean, organised job site and store tools/materials correctly.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely, keeping them in good condition.
  • Follow instructions from supervisors to complete tasks efficiently, accurately, and to a high standard.
  • Submit timesheets on time and represent the company professionally with clients, suppliers, and team members.
  • Ensure all work meets Australian Standards and company quality expectations.
  • Contribute to a positive team environment and promote a strong safety culture.
Qualifications & Licences
  • Working at Heights Licence
  • EWP (Elevated Work Platform) over 11m Licence
  • Current Class C Driver's Licence
  • Trade qualification in Carpentry or Metal Roofing
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in roof fixing and/or roof plumbing within the construction industry.
