About the role

Our design team is a diverse, curious, and passionate group focused on creating intuitive, accessible, and engaging experiences across Tyro's platforms. As a Senior UX Designer, you'll play a leading role in design initiatives across our digital ecosystem, with a particular focus on Tyro's banking platform. You'll ensure our merchants have clear, consistent, and user-centred experiences when managing their accounts and financial tools, while also contributing to in-person payments, eCommerce, and design operations.

What you'll do

Strategy
  • Help define and prioritise what we build, why, and for whom, bringing clarity to ambiguous problem spaces

  • Lead discovery activities, working with your team to frame problems and define clear hypotheses

  • Use research, insights, and metrics to influence decisions and advocate for user needs throughout the product lifecycle

  • Translate strategic intent into actionable design direction, balancing user experience with business goals

Craft
  • Design elegant, functional, and accessible interfaces grounded in a deep understanding of user needs

  • Confidently prototype and test ideas, evolving them through feedback and iteration

  • Tame complexity by simplifying flows and aligning solutions with design system patterns (or evolving them when needed)

  • Ensure your work considers edge cases, technical feasibility, and the finer points of interaction design

  • Experiment with new tools, including AI-enabled design workflows, to deliver better outcomes faster

Collaboration
  • Work as a trusted partner with product managers and engineers to co-create solutions and drive alignment

  • Influence priorities and approach through storytelling and clear articulation of user needs and design rationale

  • Mentor designers across the team, helping uplift design craft, process, and product thinking

  • Facilitate critiques and feedback sessions that grow the team's collective confidence and clarity

Impact
  • Own end-to-end experiences within your product area and be accountable for their quality and performance

  • Drive improvements to the way we work, from design ops to how we prototype, research, and ship

  • Champion accessibility and inclusive design practices

  • Identify cross-team dependencies or overlaps and proactively bring people together to resolve them

  • Contribute to the evolution of our design system, patterns, and documentation to help scale design at Tyro

What you'll bring

  • 5+ years of experience designing digital products across web and native apps

  • A strong portfolio demonstrating user-centred design from discovery to delivery

  • Proficiency in Figma, with experience using or adopting AI-powered design tools

  • Familiarity with research and testing methods

  • Strong communication and storytelling skills

  • Experience working in agile environments with engineers and product teams

  • A solid understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles along with methods for embedding into product development

  • Enthusiasm for exploring how AI can enhance and accelerate design processes

What's in it for you?

We've worked hard to create an environment that's big on diversity, inclusion, and flexibility, and one that suits the changing needs of team members across Australia. Here are just some of the things Tyros tell us they love about working here.

You'll also receive:
