These casual positions are for a small team within the Registration Department. The team assists with the preventive maintenance and storage of the Gallery's collection.

The responsibilities include handling, transporting, storing, packing, locating, and documenting works of art.

The successful candidate must have the physical fitness required to safely move and handle a wide range of artworks, using correct manual handling techniques and procedures.

The key duties of the position include:

In accordance with the APS 3 work level standards, you will:

  • Assist in coordinating the art storage areas and undertake storage activities associated with the Gallery's collection. This includes art handling across various media, both in-house and off-site, including undertaking the movement of artworks and Gallery assets and preparing artworks and Gallery assets for transport.
  • Update art movement information on the Collections Management System (CMS) and ensure all locations are accurate and updated in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the preventive maintenance of the Gallery's collection by undertaking improved
  • packing/repacking programs for works of art in storage, adhering to accepted Gallery practice.
  • Assist curatorial staff and visitors in accessing storage areas, as per agreed timetables and the Gallery's collections policy. In accordance with the National Gallery's collections policy, provide assistance to the annual stocktake of the collection.
  • Contribute to achieving departmental goals and fostering a positive team culture.

Eligibility

Citizenship – To be eligible for employment with the Gallery, you must be an Australian citizen.

Police Check – to be eligible for this role you must complete a police check.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - Qualifications, Certifications and Registrations

Role specific mandatory qualifications certification and/or registrations include:

  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • Forklift licence or the ability to obtain a licence.
  • Elevated work platform licences or the ability to obtain licence.
  • Experience and/or the ability to be trained in installing works of art in a variety of media is highly desirable.
