The National Gallery is seeking an experienced and motivated Human Resource (HR) professional to lead the People Services function within our HR team. This role offers the opportunity to manage a broad range of HR services across the employee lifecycle, while shaping the Gallery's culture and future workforce. As a senior member of the team, you will play a key role in delivering people-focused solutions and providing advice that supports our vision of being a world-leading cultural institution.

Our ideal candidate will be an HR practitioner with strong operational experience in managing HR functions such as recruitment, payroll, WHS, case management, and HR policy implementation. You will be confident in applying legislation and policies to ensure compliance and accuracy in HR service delivery.

You will be experienced in leading teams with a focus on mentoring and development. You will lead with a positive, inclusive attitude with a desire to make work fun for yourself, your team and your colleagues.

You are client-focused and have excellent relationship management skills, applying good judgement and compassion to sensitive and complex matters at all levels of the National Gallery. You will demonstrate the highest ethical standards and integrity in all that you do.

The key duties of the position include:

In accordance with the APS Executive Level 1 work level standards, you will:

 Lead the delivery of HR operations, ensuring high-quality, efficient and compliant services.

 Provide practical, solutions-focused advice across recruitment, onboarding/offboarding, payroll, WHS (including case management and rehabilitation), and HR policy and processes.

 Support the implementation of HR system and process improvements.

 Provide accurate advice and reporting to managers, senior staff and Council.

 Lead, coach and support members of the People Services team.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking candidates who are outcomes driven, accountable and have experience in HR. To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate, or have the potential to develop, the following:

  1. Effective stakeholder engagement skills to partner with line areas and translate business requirements into HR strategies as well as work collaboratively across teams.

  2. The ability to communicate with influence, including listening actively and clearly articulating your message in oral and written forms, so as to provide a high quality client service experience.

  3. Experience in managing your and your team's workload to achieve results, often working with tight timeframes and competing priorities.

  4. The ability to act with integrity, showing judgement and professionalism.

  5. Versatility, flexibility and creativity in aligning your work with the strategic priorities of the National Gallery.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this role you must:

  • hold an Australian Citizenship, and
  • satisfy a police check.

Role specific mandatory qualifications certification and/or registrations include:

  • Qualifications in HR, or equivalent experience, will be an advantage
