About the opportunity

The Regional Partnerships team sits within the Academic Division supporting the divisions mission to enable a vibrant and inclusive University experience with communities full of learning.  This dedicated team provides comprehensive support for community-focused initiatives, fostering a vibrant and inclusive University environment. Their efforts focus on enhancing educational attainment, strengthening social connectedness, and promoting inclusive economic participation across northwest Tasmania.

The Regional Learning Officer (West Coast) is one of two roles in the Regional Partnerships team based in community at two of the Regional University Study Hub locations in the North West.  The role in Zeehan at Study Hub West Coast, works closely with University partner West Coast Heritage, in developing place-based initiatives that support and inform education aspiration, participation and success within the West Coast community.

What you'll do:

  • Inform and develop activities that best enhance educational aspiration and participation through extensive engagement with stakeholders and the broader community.
  • An action plan is developed and implemented which creates opportunities for participation in higher education for a broad range of community members in the West Coast region.
  • Act as the local University of Tasmania point of contact and work in partnership with relevant areas of the University to establish and deliver university programs and support initiatives including those listed below. Key partners include the Tasmanian Engagement team, UConnect, Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment, Alumni Relations, University College and Short Courses Team and Academic Units.
  • Work as a broker for industry and community organisations to identify and deliver opportunities for bringing UTAS staff, students and alumni into the region for participation in activities, or work and study experiences.
  • Monitor the skills needs of business, industry and community and, where there is scope for the University to respond, make recommendations to relevant internal stakeholders on the nature of the delivery of these needs.
  • Represent the University on local community or education and training committees as required.
  • Where required, produce reports, correspondence and other documents to communicate activities and report on objective outcomes in the West Coast region.
  • Collaboration with University partner, West Coast Heritage Ltd, and staff at the Study Hub, on the design and delivery of initiatives that advance education participation in the region, including support for the operation of the Study Hub during periods of peak demand.

What we're looking for:

  • Possession of a degree qualification and significant relevant experience, and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in the fields of regional or community development, education, or other relevant area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly develop an understanding of, the West Coast Tasmanian communities, with particular insight into the region's educational landscape, including the social, economic, and geographic factors that influence learning outcomes and present both challenges and opportunities.
  • Capacity to effectively engage with a diverse group of stakeholders and positively contribute to subsequent activities across a range of dimensions, including education and community development.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage with diverse learners from various age groups, primary school age through to adult learners.
  • Demonstrated capacity to plan and implement projects within a complex organisation and dynamic environment.
  • Highly developed written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively coordinating stakeholder activity in order to achieve project outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to contribute as a member of a team, to work autonomously under broad direction, and to work flexibly and independently using strong initiative and sound judgment.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130,943 comprising base salary within the range of $101,821 to $111,917 plus 17% superannuation
