Why Tasmania?
It's different here.
Life in Tasmania provides a quality work/life balance. Here you can pursue what drives you, both professionally and personally.
Today, as the rest of the world feels increasingly generic, our different-ness – our Tasmanian-ness – is among our most valuable assets. We invite you to be part of this special place, to quietly pursue the extraordinary, whether it be bushwalking, mountain biking or paddock to plate dining.
The rugged and beautiful North West Coast of Tasmania is a tourist mecca, has a strong agricultural sector, a developing innovative industrial sector and is positioned with airports and sea transport so it is very accessible to the rest of Tasmania and the Australian mainland. Air travel from Devonport to Melbourne is less than one hour.
Who Are We Looking For?
As a senior member of the hospital executive and as part of the Hospitals North West clinical governance structure, the Executive Director Medical Services (EDMS) will provide clinical leadership focussed on the interests of the Tasmanian community through strong medical leadership, the promotion of continuous improvement in local and state-wide whole-of-system clinical service provision. The EDMS will do this by:
• Providing specialist medical leadership to the organisation on all aspects of its operation, with a particular emphasis on strategic policy and direction for the medical workforce and the quality and safety of patient care and patient flow through effective clinical governance.
Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the Department of Health – North West (DoH), has major sites located approximately 50km apart.
The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe, close to Devonport. The two hospitals both have very busy emergency and general medical departments. Both Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily located at the NWRH with outpatient services at both sites. Anaesthetic services are provided at both sites however the team is based at NWRH for on call purposes. A busy general surgical service is based at the NWRH with the MCH providing predominately day surgery cases. A rehabilitation service is located in a purpose built ward at the MCH. There are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services. There is also an eight bed Intensive Care unit located at NWRH. Onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.
The North West Cancer Centre (NWCC) operates as a branch of the Northern Tasmania Cancer Service and it is linked with the Holman Centre in Launceston. The NWCC provides integrated oncology services to patients who live in North West Tasmania.
