A NSW Government agency is seeking an experienced Linux/Unix Specialist to join their digital infrastructure team. This role is focused on delivering and operating infrastructure platform services across multiple sites, supporting both business-as-usual operations and new initiatives.
What You'll Do
As a Linux and Unix Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the stability and security of mission-critical systems. Your day-to-day activities will involve collaborating with various teams to deliver dependable solutions tailored to organisational needs. You will be responsible for monitoring system health, troubleshooting complex issues swiftly, developing thorough documentation for processes, supporting upgrades and integrations of new technologies, participating in disaster recovery planning, contributing to capacity planning initiatives, automating operational tasks for greater efficiency, ensuring strict compliance with security protocols through regular audits, and providing exceptional technical support to colleagues. Success in this role requires not only deep technical expertise but also strong interpersonal skills that enable you to build trust within the team and across departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver, operate, and implement infrastructure platform services ensuring availability, capacity, and resilience.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external service providers to maintain and monitor infrastructure systems.Provide performance metrics and dashboards for digital infrastructure services.
- Support patching activities and occasional out-of-hours work.
Technical Skills Required
- Strong experience in Linux/Unix administration
- Familiarity with RedHat tools (Satellite, Ansible, Puppet)
- Experience with Solaris (SPARC hardware, LDoms, Zones, ZFS)
- Scripting knowledge (Shell, PERL)
- Exposure to virtualisation platforms (VMWare, HyperV)
Qualifications & Experience
- Tertiary degree in Technology or Business, or equivalent experience
- Minimum 10 years in IT, with at least 5 years in Red Hat and Solaris environments
- Proven ability to implement and operate digital technologies across multiple locations
