The opportunity

A unique opportunity exists for a Community Voice and Engagement Coordinator – Food and Alcohol Policy to work in our Cancer Prevention & Research Division. Reporting to the Alcohol Program Manager, you will be responsible for coordinating community engagement strategies under the Increasing Healthy Eating and Preventing Harm from Alcohol projects.

You'll be working with community members to reduce alcohol and junk food advertising, respond to proposed fast food or alcohol outlets, and progress other policy priorities to support healthy environments to live, work and play.

Based in Subiaco, this position is full-time and fixed-term until June 2027.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop approaches to support community voices to contribute to our public health advocacy objectives for increasing healthy eating and preventing harm from alcohol.
  • Identify and engage community advocates who support our policy priorities for increasing healthy eating and preventing harm from alcohol.
  • Develop resources to support community members to respond to food and alcohol policy-related issues of concern (e.g. guides, training materials).
  • Engage with stakeholders who work closely with communities to protect community health and wellbeing (e.g. partner organisations).

About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in a health-related field, community services or related discipline.
  • At least 3 years' experience in public health or health promotion community engagement. Experience with food and alcohol policy is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of obesity prevention and alcohol harm prevention issues and policy is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in preparing written documents for diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA.
  • Positive approach to the workplace
