About Us

The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility (NAIF) is a Commonwealth Government financier, providing financial support to advance the development of infrastructure projects in northern Australia.

We help grow economies and populations and encourage private sector investment across a range of sectors including resources, agriculture and water, energy, financing partnerships, social infrastructure, and transport and logistics.

We support projects that deliver public benefit to the north, through new jobs, regional income, business for local suppliers and Indigenous outcomes across northern Australia.

NAIF has a $7 billion allocation and has committed over $4.3 billion to support 32 projects in Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia.

About the Role

TheFinancial and Management Accountant is responsible for managing NAIF's financial operations, including both management and financial accounting functions. This role ensures compliance with legislative requirements, internal financial controls, and financial obligations, including accurate financial reporting, budgeting, and effective management of appropriations and investments.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the establishment and maintenance of robust internal controls to ensure compliance with audit, legislative, and policy requirements.
  • Manage the agency's financial operations, including cash, investments, and accounts payable.
  • Prepare and monitor NAIF budgets and forecasts, including liaison with the Department of Finance and the Australian National Audit Office.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports, statements, and written proposals/papers for key stakeholders such as the Executive, Audit Committee, and NAIF Board.
  • Provide expert advice on accounting standards and matters of compliance, specifically in the context of a Corporate Commonwealth Entity.
  • Oversee the development, monitoring, and reporting of operating budgets in collaboration with business units.
  • Lead, coach, and support direct reports, fostering a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in implementing system changes, uplifting processes and procedures, and supporting business improvement activities.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in financial and management accounting, preferably within the public sector or a Corporate Commonwealth Entity.
  • Tertiary qualification(s) in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) with strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards and financial regulations.
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills with both internal and external stakeholders, to foster collaboration and success.
  • Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft products such as Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerBI.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to convey complex financial information clearly and concisely in both verbally and written formats.
