About the role

Scotch Oakburn College is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Laboratory Technician to join our team in 2026. This is a permanent part-time position for 16 per academic week with an additional 12 hours during non-term time and 16 hours prior to the commencement of Term 1 each year. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our science classes, ensuring our laboratories are well-equipped and maintained to the highest standards.

What you'll be doing

  1. Preparing materials, equipment and resources for practical science lessons and student experiments
  2. Ensuring the laboratory environment is safe, clean and well-organised
  3. Providing technical support and guidance to teaching staff and students during practical sessions
  4. Maintaining detailed records of stock, equipment, and supplies, and ordering new materials as needed
  5. Assisting with the set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
  6. Supporting the development and implementation of new teaching resources and methods
  7. Collaborating with the science department to enhance the learning experience for our students

What we're looking for

  1. Significant experience as a Laboratory Technician, preferably in an educational setting
  2. Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and the use of scientific equipment
  3. Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  4. A passion for science and a commitment to supporting the educational development of students
  5. Effective communication skills, with the ability to liaise with teaching staff and students
  6. Relevant qualifications in a science-related field or equivalent experience
