About the role
Scotch Oakburn College is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Laboratory Technician to join our team in 2026. This is a permanent part-time position for 16 per academic week with an additional 12 hours during non-term time and 16 hours prior to the commencement of Term 1 each year. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our science classes, ensuring our laboratories are well-equipped and maintained to the highest standards.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing materials, equipment and resources for practical science lessons and student experiments
- Ensuring the laboratory environment is safe, clean and well-organised
- Providing technical support and guidance to teaching staff and students during practical sessions
- Maintaining detailed records of stock, equipment, and supplies, and ordering new materials as needed
- Assisting with the set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
- Supporting the development and implementation of new teaching resources and methods
- Collaborating with the science department to enhance the learning experience for our students
What we're looking for
- Significant experience as a Laboratory Technician, preferably in an educational setting
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and the use of scientific equipment
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A passion for science and a commitment to supporting the educational development of students
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to liaise with teaching staff and students
- Relevant qualifications in a science-related field or equivalent experience
