Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Professional Lead

The Role

An opportunity has become available for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Professional Lead (Identified - Mental Health and Specialist Services) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history, family kinship, practices and protocols, and potential impact on health and wellbeing
• Support the use of patient care models as frameworks for the provision of comprehensive care in a multi- disciplinary environment, providing direct care as required
• Develop and implement quality improvement practices and strategies that will ensure enhanced and improved provision of quality, culturally safe care to the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
• Liaise, communicate and work effectively with government, private agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, participating in local and regional health forums as required

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

• Possession of one of the following qualifications:
• Diploma of Aboriginal and or/ Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, or
• Diploma of Mental Health, or
• Diploma of Alcohol and Other Drugs
• Driver Licence
• Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
• Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
• Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
• Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

About Us

Gold Coast Health's Mental Health and Specialist Services Division provides public mental health and alcohol and other drugs services, as well as specialist programs across the Gold Coast. Clinical and non-clinical staff are distributed across five service lines and numerous enabling teams.

The Social and Emotional Wellbeing team provides culturally appropriate care, programs, resources, and cultural support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples accessing our Mental Health and Specialist Services.
