Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire is administered by the Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council in accordance with the Local Government Act 2009. Council has an elected Mayor and Councillors who work closely with an Executive Team to deliver services to the Community.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people? The Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking a dynamic and committed Manager Child and Youth Engagement to deliver high-quality services and programs for Kowanyama's children and youth, in line with Council's Strategic Plan and funding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate Essential Services staff and contractors
  • Maintain water supply systems, bores, pump stations, and recreational water facilities
  • Oversee sewerage infrastructure and garbage collection services
  • Support plumbing and gas fitting operations across Council assets
  • Ensure compliance with legislative and environmental health standards
  • Prepare timely reports and maintain accurate records
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and customer-focused work environment

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Plumbing and Gas fitting trade qualifications
  • Backflow, On-Site Sewerage, and Solar Installation certifications
  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Current QLD "C" Class Driver's Licence,
  • Police Clearance, and
  • White Card

Located in Western Cape York, Kowanyama Aboriginal Shire consists of beautiful and unique wetlands and delta mangroves in the north, extending to forest country in the central peninsula. Kowanyama is a remote Aboriginal community and home to over one thousand residents. Kowanyama means "place of many waters" in the Yir Yoront language.
