Your Opportunity

We are excited to be sourcing for a newly shaped Laboratory Operations Lead for our SAS Labs, that forms part of our Customer & Innovation group.

The Customer and Innovation group leads and champions the way Urban Utilities connects with its customers. Our approach is focused on remaining contemporary, by understanding the current and future needs of our customers and appropriately shaping our services.

In this role, the Laboratory Operations Lead will be responsible for shaping and creating an inclusive and high-performing workplace experience for skilled technical officers by fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous learning.

This role ensures that the technical team is resilient, skilled, and highly engaged, capable of delivering consistent and high-quality support to laboratory leads and scientists across a range of technical functions. You will enjoy achieving outcomes through your people, doing this by driving daily analyses outputs, setting KPIs, celebrating wins, and having accurate result recording and timely reporting to meet internal and external customer requirements

Some of your accountabilities will include:

• Creates an inclusive and safe environment, plays to other's strengths, and works collaboratively within and across teams.
• Deliver and oversee proactive training initiatives, structured rotations, and dynamic rostering to ensure optimal workforce deployment aligned with scientific and business objectives.
• Lead the coordination of day-to-day laboratory operations, including team performance, workflow optimization, managing rosters, workload distribution, resource allocation, and facilities management.
• Follow the organization's HS&E policies, procedures and mandatory instructions, to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the wellbeing of oneself and others
• Regularly review laboratory procedures including compliance with NATA, and other relevant standards and regulations.

About You:

• You are a demonstrated leader with a proven ability to grow and manage teams. You'll foster an inclusive and high-performing culture to safely deliver exceptional results.
• You are a critical thinker who naturally builds strong relationships with stakeholders. You excel at collaboration, aligning objectives, and achieving desired outcomes.
• You have a growth mindset and have a track record of building the capability and performance of both individuals and medium sized teams.
• Experience in NATA accredited laboratory or exposure to GMP or GLMP practices would be advantageous although not a fundamental requirement.
• The role requires close contact with raw wastewater. Immunisation (e.g. Hepatitis A and B, Tetanus) may be required in accordance with Urban Utilities' immunisation policy.
• This role is based at our SAS Lab in Darra, and you are expected to work their full time. There is free staff parking or street parking available.
