Opera Australia is one of the world's most celebrated opera companies with an ambition to bring an Australian stamp to telling great stories through music and song, and a commitment to develop and nurture new generations of Australian talent on and off the stage.
Opera Australia is the largest and busiest performing arts organisation in Australia, with over 800 opera performances a year, including opera seasons in Sydney and Melbourne, Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour, musical theatre, opera concerts and a range of other activities. Through its touring arm, the Company reaches out to communities in regional Australia, and also delivers an extensive program to school students. Opera performances are broadcast and distributed nationally and internationally.
The Company manages the Opera Australia Orchestra and also works in partnership with Orchestra Victoria. The Company works with leading directors and designers, and employs a large number of highly skilled people in the areas of scenic construction and painting, wardrobe and wig-making, stage production, and management and administration. Overall, the Company plays a vital role in developing and sustaining a specialist skills base in this unique area of the performing arts.

About the Role
Are you passionate about tourism, culture, and live performance? Opera Australia is seeking a dynamic Tourism Marketing & Sales Specialist to lead our international and domestic tourism strategy. This is your chance to work with one of Australia's leading performing arts organisations and help shape unforgettable visitor experiences.
As Tourism Marketing & Sales Specialist, you'll drive visitation and revenue through strategic partnerships, product development, and targeted campaigns. You'll manage relationships with OTAs, wholesalers, and inbound operators, and lead cooperative marketing initiatives with DNSW, Tourism Australia, and global partners.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage relationships with OTAs, wholesalers, and inbound operators and troubleshoot ticketing systems (Ingresso, Rezdy, Viator, etc.)
• Negotiate allocations and contracts with distributors (HelloWorld, AOT, ATS)
• Collaborate with state tourism organisations, hotels, airlines, and international partners to develop cooperative campaigns and drive event visibility
• Host families, trade events, and concierge experiences
• Design and distribute special packages including NYE and private performances
• Produce dashboards, reports, and training materials for tourism systems
About you
• Tertiary qualifications in Marketing, Tourism, Business or a related field
• 5+ years' experience in tourism marketing, sales, or business development
• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of tourism distribution networks
• High-level IT proficiency, including ticketing and digital marketing platforms (Tessitura experience a plus)
• Exceptional relationship management and communication skills
• A proactive, flexible, and self-motivated approach
