Aries Rail design and manufacture Road-Rail Vehicle conversions for the Mining and Rail industries. Aries has been Australia's number one road-rail vehicle manufacturer for over 25 years with the company showing consistent growth over that time. Headquartered in Perth's northern suburb of Wangara, Aries Rail has additional manufacturing and service facilities in Port Hedland, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Aries Rail carries out road-rail conversions on a wide variety of vehicles from the Toyota Land Cruiser to large trucks (MAN, Hino, Volvo, Isuzu etc.) and excavators.

In addition to road rail equipment, Aries Rail design and manufacture unique rail-specific engineered solutions for the rail industry including, lifting equipment, elevated work platforms and trailers.

We are seeking a degree qualified mechanical design engineer to further strengthen and expand the engineering department.

Key Responsibilities.

• Mechanical design of steel fabrications, sheet metal and machined components (Solidworks)
• Structural FEA and fatigue analysis.
• Conducting calculations to validate structural integrity, staibility, fatigue and other criteria.
• Creation of well-written engineering reports, instruction manuals and other supporting documentation.
• Providing support to shop-floor staff.
• Liaison with suppliers and clients.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The successful candidate needs to come up-to-speed quickly, bringing experience from previous positions to the team.

Essential

• Able to create robust, innovative design concepts.
• Demonstrable experience in a design based role, developing machined and fabricated steel components and assemblies in accordance with Australian Standards.
• Degree Qualified Mechanical Engineer.
• Eligible for membership of Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer.
• Experience of mechanical design and FEA analysis using a leading 3D CAD package.
• Ability to work on multiple projects and provide accurate updates throughout the design process.
• Ability to confidently carry out manual calculations to establish load cases and validate scenarios.

Advantageous

Any of the following would be advantageous.

• Experience within the rail industry.
• Experience in a design role within a vehicle or plant equipment OEM (Ford, Volvo, CAT, JCB, Palfinger etc.)
• Experience of vehicle chassis, subframe or suspension design.
• Experience of elevated-work-platform (EWP) or crane design.
• Knowledge of complex hydraulic system design.
• Knowledge of Solidworks and PDM.
