Dunwich Queensland, Australia Department of Education Full time $60,000 - $80,000 per year

Are you passionate about creating brighter beginnings for children and families?

Metropolitan South Region is seeking Family Support Coordinators to join the Bay Islands Cluster supporting Victoria Point, Dunwich, Macleay Island, and Russell Island State Schools.

As part of the Family Support Coordinator Initiative, you'll strengthen family engagement, enhance attendance, and support confident transitions from early childhood into school.

Full-time and part-time opportunities are available for motivated, community-minded people who build trust, connect families with services, and make a lasting difference in the early years.

Join us in building stronger partnerships between families, schools, and their communities.

About the Family Support Coordinator

The Family Support Coordinator (FSC) plays a vital role in helping children and families build strong connections with their school and local community. Multiple positions are available across the Bay Islands Cluster — Victoria Point State School, Dunwich State School, Macleay Island State School and Russell Island State School. These roles focus on strengthening relationships, improving access to support, and creating confident, connected beginnings in the early years of schooling.

Working alongside principals, staff and community partners, FSCs provide a consistent point of contact for families, coordinating support and linking them to the services that best meet their needs. This is a hands-on opportunity within close-knit island communities, where collaboration and compassion make a genuine difference for every child.

Your Role

As a Family Support Coordinator, you will be part of the school team supporting children and families as they transition into and through the early years of school. You'll collaborate with teachers and student support staff to identify needs early, respond to challenges that affect attendance or engagement, and connect families with targeted internal and external supports.

These are temporary full-time and/or part-time positions for a period of 12 months, unless otherwise determined.

Responsibilities

Successful applicants will:

  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, teacher aides and specialist staff to understand each child's needs and link families with health, therapeutic and developmental services that enhance learning engagement.
  • Provide tailored support to children and families from diverse backgrounds, including those experiencing vulnerability or disadvantage.
  • Build the capability of families to support their child's learning, wellbeing and sustained participation in school life.
  • Partner with school leadership to strengthen inclusive practices and coordinated responses to complex family and student needs.

Experience working in a culturally responsive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and/or a willingness to train in culturally appropriate approaches is highly regarded. Knowledge of the region's demographics, community networks and local service systems would be highly regarded.

Please refer to the attached Role Description for the full list of responsibilities and mandatory requirements for this position.

Interested? To Apply

  • Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should be familiar with your relevant work history).
  • Attach a written statement (1-page maximum) about how your achievements and capabilities meet the requirements of the role.

We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.

Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.

Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.
