RAATISC's Family Wellbeing Program team is growing, and we have an opportunity for you to be our new Family Support Worker – Level 3 – Family Wellbeing Program – Cairns or Kowanyama based (specified male worker)

The team are looking for a skilled and compassionate individual who is committed to providing high quality support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, to help build their capacity to safely care for and protect children experiencing vulnerability.

About the program:

The Family Wellbeing Program has been designed to deliver a holistic, culturally safe, case managed approach. We deliver a coordinated mix of services from early intervention responses through to supporting children and families where ongoing child safety intervention is required.

Position Purpose:

Our new Family Support Worker will be based in Cairns or Kowanyama and travel regularly to remote communities across Cape York, primarily working in an allocated community.

Your primary role will be responsible for;


• Comprehensively and holistically assessing a family's needs.


• Building family capabilities and connections, using a culturally safe, holistic case management approach.


• Advocating for and leveraging support for a family from multiple service providers and promoting collaboration, information exchange and joint planning.


• Facilitating personal support and development, including information and advice, parenting skills development, building family cohesion and kinship connections, budgeting and household management skills development.


• Delivering practical services that address specific needs within the family.

Along with your dedication to supporting our Mob, you will also apply your exceptional community engagement experience to create and maintain strong and supportive relationships with stakeholders.

The Opportunity:


• Provide intensive family support through case management for children and families who are eligible for the program. This includes developing support plans, risk assessments, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals.


• Provide emotional and practical support, ensuring families feel supported and empowered decisions that enhance their safety and connection.


• Implement intervention strategies, ensuring timely and effective responses to immediate safety concerns.


• Ensure quality client records are accurate, factual, and kept up to date in appropriate database/s with all relevant documentation.

About You:


• Ability to maintain a high level of privacy and confidentiality practices and organisational policy procedures.


• Ability to work in a culturally respectful and competent manner, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander's young people, their families, and communities.


• Providing support to families and in their communities to actively be involved in self-determination and decision-making processes.


• Understand how domestic and family violence impacts Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities and the challenges with accessing support services and safety.


• Understand and recognise different family structures and cultural uniqueness of individual and remote communities.


• Willingness to undertake professional development and increase skills.


• Have effective time management skills (punctuality, meeting deadlines, prioritising tasks).


• Be a productive, passionate, and positive contributor to an already established team that are dedicated to making a difference to vulnerable people's lives.


• Have a proficient level of computer skills and ability to learn software programs efficiently.


• Be willing to regularly travel to Cape York communities that RAATSIC proudly deliver services and programs if the successful applicant is Cairns based.
