On behalf of Unitywater, McConnell Dowell is delivering a series of major new water and wastewater infrastructure projects to support the growing Aura and Harmony communities on the Sunshine Coast. This large-scale program includes pipelines, pump stations, and storage reservoirs that will directly benefit more than 70,000 future residents and return over $80 million to the local economy.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Safety Advisor to join the project team and lead the health, safety and wellbeing strategy across construction. Initially a 6-month contract, long term opportunities may be available for high performers. This is a pivotal role ensuring best practice safety standards are embedded from planning through to delivery.

You'll oversee site-based safety performance across complex construction activities, including:

  • Open-trench and trenchless pipelining techniques
  • Large diameter water and wastewater pipelines (up to 12 km)
  • Pump station and reservoir construction
  • Engagement with local and First Nations businesses and employees

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safety leadership, coaching and mentoring to project teams and contractors.
  • Drive compliance with legislation, company standards, and client expectations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Develop and implement project-specific health and safety management plans.
  • Support the delivery of a positive safety culture, ensuring every worker goes home safe.

About You

  • Proven experience in a Senior Safety role within large-scale civil, infrastructure or utilities projects.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and contemporary safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage multiple stakeholders.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach, with a focus on continuous improvement.
