New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea and owns the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province. The Porgera Gold Mine will employ nearly 3,000 Papua New Guineans at full production, and over the last 30 years of life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea's total annual exports.

About the role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Production Engineer - Open Pit to join our Mining Technical Services Team. Reporting to the Manager Technical Services, you will lead and coordinate daily open pit mining activities at Porgera, ensuring safe and efficient achievement of production targets in line with operational plans. The role involves developing and communicating short-term schedules, monitoring ore and waste movements, and working closely with geologists and surveyors to maintain ore control accuracy. It provides pit control and technical support to supervisors and operations teams, tracks performance to address variances, and drives continuous improvement in productivity, cost, and safety. Additionally, the role mentors junior engineers and national staff while ensuring compliance with company standards, environmental obligations, and regulatory requirements.

You will model safety behaviours and coach and develop your team, working with your team to assess and manage risk.  NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.

About you

As the successful applicant, you will hold a Bachelor's degree in mining engineering or a related discipline, with at least 10 years of open pit mining experience, including a minimum of three years in a production engineering leadership role. Candidates should have strong knowledge of open pit production engineering, including drill and blast, haulage systems, and pit control, along with proficiency in Deswik mine planning and dispatch systems. Experience in large-scale hard rock operations, preferably gold, is essential, with prior exposure to challenging FIFO or remote environments such as PNG considered advantageous. The position demands strong problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure, proven ability to lead and mentor a diverse workforce in a culturally sensitive environment, and a demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and operational excellence.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis either from Papua New Guinea or Australia/New Zealand with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
