FPGA & DSP Lead

A leading defence technology company is seeking an FPGA & DSP Lead to lead its FPGA & DSP Engineering team in Sydney. Reporting to the Hardware Manager, Sensors and Effectors, this position combines people leadership with technical contribution. The successful candidate will guide the team in developing RF detection and defeat products built on software-defined radios (SDRs) and FPGA platforms, while also contributing directly to system design, development, and optimisation.This is a standout role, with key responsibilities below:Technical Leadership Lead a team of FPGA & DSP engineers, applying Agile and modern project management methods.Allocate tasks and priorities in line with business objectives.Maintain and update project plans, forecasts, and team resourcing.Provide regular progress updates to senior management, highlighting risks and dependencies.Collaborate with other team leaders to establish consistent processes and best practices.Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and identify professional development opportunities for team members.Individual Contribution Design and implement RF concepts, FPGA/ARM development, DSP, and ML algorithm integration.Research and deliver multi-FPGA architectures for high-bandwidth, low-latency embedded systems.Develop MPSoC-based platforms supporting real-time RF data processing (>1 GHz).Optimise FPGA systems for accuracy, performance, and stability.Enhance automated verification, validation, and CI/CD frameworks.Improve automated build and deployment pipelines.Skills & Experience Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering or similar technical discipline (or equivalent experience).Minimum 3 years' experience working in FPGA/DSP engineering within an established team.Strong background in Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog (design, debugging, verification).Hands-on FPGA development using Vivado (preferred), Quartus, Vitis, or similar.Experience designing high-throughput, fully pipelined FPGA architectures.Familiarity with automated V&V frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.Proficiency in C/C++ for FPGA firmware, with scripting skills (Python preferred).Linux development environment experience.PCB schematic knowledge, hardware bring-up, and debugging experience.Strong foundation in DSP, with exposure to RF protocols and principles.Understanding of ML concepts as applied to FPGA implementations.For more info, you can call me on , or email me
