Purpose of the role

As a key technical leadership role, reporting to the Portfolio Lead, Transformations, the Test Lead is responsible for overseeing the testing activities across investment platform projects to ensure quality and alignment with business requirements. This role involves collaborating closely with business and project representatives, solutions architects, software engineers, and other stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive test strategies. The Test Lead will work with the AMP Investment Platforms teams, other IT portfolios, and business stakeholders to ensure thorough testing, defect management, and quality assurance for investment platform systems. This role will also manage vendor relationships and coordinate testing efforts to support portfolio applications, manage escalations, and ensure the successful delivery of reliable and high-quality software solutions.

Focus areas

Delivery :

  • Collaborate within the broader Wealth Technology Team and other Portfolios to ensure testing strategies align with business project objectives and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Manage key business stakeholder relationships to ensure that testing services align with key business priorities and expectations.
  • Define and implement areas of opportunity to continually improve testing processes, including automation, innovation, and defect reduction.
  • Work closely with the broader Wealth Technology team to ensure that testing changes are sustainable and supportable.

Test Management :

  • Manage the development and maintenance of comprehensive test plans and test cases for Investments Platform systems.
  • Lead the execution of system testing, including implementations, enhancements, maintenance, and upgrade projects, in collaboration with system business analysts, engineers, architects, and product support teams.
  • Create estimations, proposals, and project plans for testing activities related to new system implementations, upgrades, enhancements, and maintenance projects.
  • Provide strategic testing advice and lead the design and development of testing solutions that meet current and future needs.
  • Responsible for technical ownership and delivery of testing activities, ensuring established testing methods and standards are followed.
  • Continuously advance testing practices to meet business requirements, especially in automation, and streamline processes by eliminating manual steps.
  • Contribute to the overall simplification of testing infrastructure, tools, and methodologies.
  • Analyse, design, and propose testing solutions to meet the requirements of projects or component pieces for larger, complex programs of work.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and product improvements to enhance the service offering of testing processes currently in use.
  • Build relationships and develop testing advocacy across a variety of stakeholders, including internal customers, vendors, and partners.
  • Work within agile and traditional software development methodologies with a high degree of collaboration.
  • Maintain testing documentation and contribute to the development of testing standards and practices.
  • Lead testing reviews and audits as required to maintain testing quality.

People Leadership :

  • Support and contribute to the leadership vision of AMP.
  • Sponsor the testing team with key stakeholders and actively encourage professional development and innovative practices within the team.
  • Act as a leader, manager, mentor, and coach to best develop a high-performing testing team.
  • Ensure the right people are in the right roles to deliver AMP's technology vision.
  • Manage employees, contractors, and work delivered by vendors through various engagement models, such as statements of work, time & material, and fixed price contracts.

Risk Management :

  • Ongoing identification of key risks associated with testing services in the portfolio.
  • Identification and implementation of mitigating controls, considering associated costs and benefits, to allow the business to make informed risk and control management decisions.
  • Accountable for ensuring the effectiveness and documentation of key controls and the overall control environment in testing processes.
  • Direct, own, and develop processes for initiating, managing, and summarizing audit and risk findings applicable for regulated entities.
  • Accountable for achieving business and financial objectives linked to the testing platforms.
  • Value and cost transparency of testing services, including service economics.

Experience and qualifications required

  • 8+ years of experience in software testing and quality assurance, with a focus on financial services or investment platforms.
  • Proven experience in a lead role, managing testing teams and coordinating large-scale testing efforts.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and testing methodologies.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing test strategies, plans, and cases.
  • Experience with automation testing tools and frameworks, with a focus on enhancing testing efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, business analysts, and project managers.
  • Solid understanding of agile methodologies and experience working within agile development environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically to address complex testing challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively to various stakeholders.
  • Tertiary qualifications in computer science, engineering, information technology, or a related field
