Are you a commercial lawyer looking to be involved in innovative work across Government?
The DCS Legal team supports a range of portfolio business clients including, Revenue NSW, Service NSW, NSW Fair Trading, the NSW Telco Authority, SafeWork NSW, the Building Commission and the State Insurance Regulatory Authority (SIRA).
Our lawyers are involved in cutting edge projects and matters such as:
- Consultancy, licence and service/goods agreements;
- Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with other agencies and for intra-departmental entities including Executive Agencies;
- Legal advising on a range of complex issues in the context of commercial arrangements;
- Innovative projects such as the National Public Safety Mobile Broadband project;
- Governance such as compliance with NSW Government procurement requirements
- Cybersecurity and privacy;
- Critical Communications Enhancement Program;
- Government Shared Services;
- the Government's response to address major industry issues such as residential building defects;
- Grants and funding agreements such as for the Connectivity Innovation Network; and
- Intellectual Property.
We have a Principal Lawyer role in our Corporate and Commercial team. As a Principal Lawyer you will have carriage of and lead projects representing Legal Division in the provision of independent, accurate, and timely legal services that support the agency's strategic, operational, and legislative priorities. There are opportunities to participate in initiatives across DCS and across Government including steering committees on significant projects that advance the priorities of DCS

- Remuneration of $149,739 - $173,174+ super & leave loading, commensurate with experience.
- Based in Sydney CBD with hybrid working options available.
The professional in this role will need to:
- Provide strategic, pragmatic, focused and accountable specialist legal advice and strategy across a range of commercial and corporate areas.
- Confidently lead, conduct, and support complex commercial negotiations to ensure compliance with legislative and regulatory requirements and successful delivery of outcomes for major projects.
- Advise, draft, review, and negotiate a range of documents and agreements including, commercial contracts/procurement, licensing, funding, consultancy and service agreements.
- Be adept at working with a variety of stakeholders to interpret and distil complex legal issues in the preparation of contractual and other documentation to ensure that statutory, ethical, probity and other legal obligations are properly addressed.
About you:
- You are admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and hold or, be eligible to hold, a current practising certificate as a solicitor.
- You will hold Bachelor of Laws or equivalent degree qualification and have a minimum of 6 years relevant post qualification in Corporate and Commercial law area in either private, in-house corporate or government practice.
- You have advanced interpretation and drafting skills, analytical ability, lateral thinking and problem-solving including an ability to apply legal principles in a practical way.
- You possess excellent stakeholder management, interpersonal, and communication skills and a proven ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with key stakeholders across all levels to support optimal service delivery outcomes.
- You are a client focussed team player with great initiative, who thrives managing competing deadlines and priorities in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
