About the Role

This Identified position is designed to provide cultural and pastoral support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Years 5–12. You will play a key role in enacting the College's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), building relationships with external organisations, and expanding cultural knowledge across our community.

Your work will align with the College's vision, mission, and strategic plan, and reflect the touchstones of the Charter for Catholic Schools in the Edmund Rice Tradition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide cultural mentoring and pastoral support to Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Lead and support the Umbarra Group (Years 5–12), including cultural activities such as dance and storytelling.
  • Enhance staff and student understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and contributions.
  • Collaborate with external organisations (e.g., Murri Ministries) to provide cultural education and support.
  • Actively contribute to the College RAP Committee and support the implementation of RAP initiatives.
  • Build relationships with local Elders and community leaders to foster cultural presence and pride.
  • Organise and participate in key cultural events such as NAIDOC Week and National Reconciliation Week.
  • Liaise with families to strengthen cultural identity and community connection.

You are a proud Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with a deep commitment to supporting young people in their cultural journey. You bring lived experience, cultural knowledge, and a passion for education and community connection.

You understand the importance of identity, belonging, and cultural pride, and you are ready to walk alongside students, families, and staff to foster a culturally safe and inclusive environment.

This recruitment process is only open to applicants who identify as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. People without this attribute will not be considered.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to provide confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage.

A confirmation must stipulate that a person:

  • is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; and

  • identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; and

  • is accepted as such by the community in which they live or formerly lived.
