Your new role:
As an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker in Cardiology, you will play a key role in improving access, equity, and health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients. Working within the Heart, Lung and Critical Care division, you will deliver culturally appropriate support, education, and advocacy across cardiac care services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting patients, families, and carers during cardiac care journeys, including discharge and follow-up
- Providing health education, case management, and culturally safe advocacy
- Liaising with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community groups and organisations
- Attending appointments with patients and linking them to community or primary health services
- Promoting and facilitating access to cardiac services and supporting patient self-management
- Contributing to quality improvement, governance, and community consultation initiatives
This is an identified vacancy with a genuine occupational requirement for the position to be filled by a candidate indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. Candidates not meeting this criteria will not be considered.
About you:
We are seeking a committed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker who can combine cultural knowledge with health expertise to support better outcomes in cardiac care.
To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Lived experience and cultural knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, health providers, and community organisations
- Knowledge of the social determinants of health and barriers to accessing cardiac services
- Strong liaison, negotiation, and advocacy skills to support patient-centred care
- Certificate IV or Diploma in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care

The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a tertiary health care centre providing care in most major adult specialties. We provide world class health care to Brisbane City's southern suburbs across emergency, medical, mental health and surgical services, including liver and kidney transplant.
We are nationally recognised for our expertise in trauma management and organ transplants and are one of Australia's leading academic and research health centres. The PAH as a major medical research precinct hosts Australia's most advanced medical research facility, the Translational Research Institute (TRI) as well as a new Clinical Research Facility for the discoveries made at TRI to be trialed in a safe clinical environment.
