The Department of Education in the North Queensland Region is seeking a HP4 Senior Occupational Therapist (Clinical) to join our team based in Townsville.

This position is being offered in a Temporary Part-Time capacity (0.60FTE), 45.6 hours per fortnight.

About the Role

As the Senior Occupational Therapist (Clinical), you will support occupational therapists across the state and within your regional schools in applying complex, evidence-based clinical practices to enhance student learning outcomes. You will provide professional leadership and demonstrate high-level expertise in specialised clinical aspects of school-based occupational therapy services across the department.

This position may require our next Senior Occupational Therapist to operate a government vehicle, and it is highly desirable that they hold a current Queensland "C" class driver's licence. Our next Senior Occupational Therapist will also be required to work throughout the service area of the position's base location, with travel, including overnight stays, as needed.

Your Responsibilities

As the Senior Occupational Therapist (Clinical), your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support students to achieve their potential using evidence-based contemporary occupational therapy knowledge and frameworks to assist schools to identify and make reasonable adjustments and implement inclusive teaching strategies.
  • Collaborate with schools, the designated supervising Occupational Therapist and other service providers to assess barriers to student learning, and develop and implement occupational therapy services and interventions across schools including complex and specialist interventions where required.
  • Provide occupational therapy services of a complex and varied nature where occupational therapy principles, procedures, techniques or methods frequently require adaptation or modification, with clinical decisions based on valid and reliable evidence.

Mandatory Requirements

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

  • Possession of a degree in occupational therapy from a recognised tertiary institution, or other equivalent formal qualifications which, in the opinion of the Director-General, Department of Education or delegate, are acceptable and registration with the Occupational Therapists Board of Queensland.
  • Current registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency).
  • In accordance with the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000, registered health practitioners working within their professional capacity must hold valid registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency at all times during their employment for the purpose of satisfying the exemption requirements of the Act.
