Solicitor (1 – 3 years PAE)

The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Solicitor (1-3 years PAE, ideally with experience in professional indemnity) to join our Sydney Casualty & Commercial team on a full-time basis. The role reports to Practice Group Lead and Partner, Iona Sjahadi, and Special Counsel, Simon Perrein.

As a Solicitor within the HBA Legal Team, you will provide advice and assistance to our clients in dealing with their legal matters.

Working under the guidance of the senior members of your team, you will grow your technical skills in key areas such as legal writing, research and information synthesis, analytical thinking and commercial acumen.

What you'd be doing in this role:

• Undertaking and completing work with the expected level of guidance and supervision.
• Proactively sharing knowledge, experience and insights with immediate and wider team in order to enhance client experience and internal knowledge management.
• Providing advice and managing files in a clear and logical manner within required timeframes developing sound case management strategies.
• Taking an engaged and curious approach to work, professional development and the law in general.
• Conferring with colleagues and experts with specialties to establish and verify basis for legal position and strategic decisions.
• Ensuring understanding and compliance with firm's policies and procedures as well as staying abreast of industry updates including constitution, statutes, decisions, regulation and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies to determine ramifications for cases.
• Delegating and managing work direction to administrative assistants and paralegals.
• Maintaining and developing strong client relationships through participating in value adding activities and support, keeping clients informed of case progress during the course of the matter.
• Acting as a HBA brand ambassador through demonstrating support and contributing to the firm's strategic vision and values.

You're probably a match if you:

• Have 1-3 Years PAE in Professional indemnity, Public liability, or general insurance matters or similar comparable experience within the insurance industry.
• Hold a current Practising Certificate or willingness to obtain.
• Are able to demonstrate strong communication skills through building mutually beneficial relationships both internally and externally and the ability to engage openly with people at all levels including senior level decision makers.
• Have the ability to manage diary, Court timetables and workload effectively across multiple matters.
• Regularly liaise with team leads in relation to work progress and demonstrates creativity and willingness to be involved in tactical decisions.
• Are open to learning new things and willingness to inject oneself into new opportunities.
• Demonstrate effective time management, ability to work to deadlines and have high level organisational skills in order to monitor progress and meet KPI and budget requirements.
• Have strong technical skills and attention to detail.
