School Psychologist Intern

Details: School Psychologists provide a psychological service to enhance student learning, engagement and wellbeing. As an intern School Psychologist, the capacity to perform the following activities will be developed/strengthened over the course of the internship.
The major activities of a School Psychologist include but are not limited to:
- Conducting psychological and educational assessments, writing comprehensive reports and providing recommendations.
- Provision of psychological intervention for children and young people.
- Conducting mental health risk assessments.
- Assisting in managing critical incidents.
- consulting and collaborating with key stakeholders, including teachers, parents, carers, school administrators and external agencies to support and enhance student learning and wellbeing.
- Consultation, development, and evaluation of behaviour, social emotional and individual learning plans.
- When appropriate, support student learning and wellbeing by making referrals to directorate programs and external agencies.
- Assisting in the selection, design, implementation and evaluation of prevention programs.
- Providing information and psychological education to students, school staff, parents, carers and external stakeholders; and
- Supporting the development of policy and processes.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Current registration as a provisional psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. For further information refer to
- Completion of a fifth year Board-approved qualification in psychology (such as a Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology or Master of Professional Psychology).
- A current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra )
Highly Desirable:
- A current Australian driver licence.
- A demonstrated interest in working with children and young people
- An interest in working with children and young people within an education setting
- An interest in working with inter-professional teams
Notes:This is a temporary position available from 20 April 2026 for a period of 18 months with the possibility of extension for an additional six months. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
Salary for Internship - please note that all interns will receive the salary of $98,571 on commencement and will receive increases in line with the EBA and an incremental increase after 12 months.
