About the role
Are you seeking a rewarding and diverse Peer Navigator role in a leading regional hospital? Join the Mental Health Services team at Latrobe Regional Health, where we value our employees by providing a safe and supportive workplace culture that enables you to thrive.
Latrobe Regional Health is looking for a Peer Navigator to join our growing team on a part-time (0.8 EFT) ongoing basis.
We are seeking a passionate and empathetic individual to join our Lived/Living Experience workforce as a Peer Navigator. This role is integral to supporting people accessing acute mental health care, as well as their families, carers, and supporters.
Drawing on your own lived or living experience—either as a consumer of mental health services or as a family member or carer—you will provide emotional and practical support, foster hope, and help people navigate their recovery journey.
Working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will strengthen discharge and transitional care processes, centre lived experience perspectives, and contribute to system improvement.
Working Together | We will respond to challenges together to create a safe, high-quality health service.
The role of the Peer Navigator is to:
- Build peer relationships by purposefully and appropriately sharing lived experiences to support consumers and/or their families, carers, and supporters.
- Strengthen discharge and transitional support in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
- Support individuals, families, and carers to express their preferences, access services, and actively participate in care planning.
- Provide service orientation, navigation support, and linkages to community and peer resources.
- Promote lived experience perspectives to influence service delivery and drive system change.
About you
Ideal candidates for this role will have:
- Personal lived or living experience relevant to a consumer role.
- An understanding of the challenges people face when navigating mental health services.
- A willingness to purposefully and appropriately share your story to support others.
- Experience in peer support or a similar lived experience role (minimum six months desirable).
- Strong communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills.
Latrobe Regional Health offers a range of benefits including:
- Salary packaging up to $9,000 per annum.
- Meals/Entertainment benefit up to $2,650 per annum.
- Encouragement for professional development and ongoing education.
- A range of social club activities, discounts and diverse workplace activities.
- Free access to our Staff Wellbeing Centre offering health education and wellbeing
- Access to discounted gym membership and fitness services through Fitness Passport Services.
