ABOUT MARMALADE
Marmalade is an invoice payment platform revolutionising business payments. We empower businesses to get their unpaid invoices paid when they need it, alleviating cash flow strain without debt and enabling them to grow on their terms.
With Marmalade, businesses can choose to have an unpaid invoice paid in advance of the due date minus a low one time fixed fee with the funds delivered in a matter of hours. Marmalade integrates with Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks with no changes required to how a business invoices.
Marmalade is ever-evolving and setting new standards around invoice payments. We're enthusiastic about the journey ahead and recognise we're only scratching the surface of what's possible.
THE ROLE
If you're an experienced compliance professional who thrives at the intersection of regulation, governance, and commercial ambition, this is your opportunity to shape the compliance foundations of a fast-growing fintech.
As Marmalade's first dedicated Compliance and Regulatory Manager, you won't just be maintaining registers, you'll be building and steering the frameworks that keep us sharp, accountable, and ahead of our obligations. You'll own our AML/CTF Program end-to-end, drive our engagement with AUSTRAC and ASIC, and embed compliance thinking into every product, process, and decision we make.
This role offers the scope to blend strategy, governance, and execution. One day you'll be leading the Legal Risk and Compliance Forum to drive cross-functional accountability, the next you'll be working alongside Product or Operations to ensure new initiatives land fully compliant. You'll also take the lead on AUSTRAC reporting, AFSL obligations, and policy ownership, making sure our frameworks not only meet the letter of the law, but actively enable our growth.
What makes this different from a traditional compliance role? Pace and impact. At Marmalade, your work won't gather dust in a policy folder, decisions move fast, and your advice will directly shape customer experience, regulator relationships, and our ability to scale with confidence.
If you're ready to push beyond a tick-the-box approach to compliance and play a pivotal role in building a culture of proactive, pragmatic regulatory excellence, we'd love to talk.
Strategic:
- Regulatory Framework Ownership:
Ensure Marmalade's compliance framework aligns with ASIC (AFSL, RG185) and AUSTRAC (AML/CTF) obligations, including ongoing reviews and enhancements.
- Registers & Governance:
Maintain Marmalade's centralised Legal & Regulatory Obligations Register as it relates to AUSTRAC, ASIC and the Privacy Act.
- Forum Leadership:
Manage the Legal Risk and Compliance Forum, ensuring cross-functional engagement on compliance issues, remediation, and product reviews.
- Policy Management:
Own compliance-related policies (AML/CTF, AFSL obligations, complaints/dispute resolution) and ensure they remain current, effective, and fit-for-purpose.
- Product & Initiative Review
: Assess and provide compliance input for new products, features, or business initiatives, engaging external counsel where necessary.
Day-to-Day:
- Manage AUSTRAC reporting obligations, including suspicious matter reporting, annual compliance reports, and threshold transaction reporting (where applicable).
- Ensure compliance with tipping-off restrictions and all statutory reporting timeframes.
- Oversee KYC/CDD/ECDD processes and manage Marmalade's relationship with KYC/KYB vendors, ensuring outsourcing arrangements meet AML/CTF obligations.
- Monitor changes in legislation, regulation, and ASIC/ AUSTRAC guidance, updating registers and policies as required.
- Coordinate compliance training and awareness programs for staff on AML/CTF and AFSL obligations.
- Jointly (with Operations) execute complaints handling and dispute resolution obligations under RG185 and AFSL requirements.
- Support preparation and responses to ASIC or AUSTRAC audits, reviews, or notices.
- Liaise with regulators and external legal counsel on compliance matters, ensuring proactive and transparent engagement.
Role KPIs

- Percentage of compliance obligations reviewed and updated within scheduled cycles.
- Completion status of remediation plans and risk acceptance processes.
