The Retail Regulations team executes a best practice regulatory compliance framework to ensure the effective delivery of high-quality outcomes for AGL and its customers.

The Regulatory and Compliance Manager will work across Customer Markets to lead AGL’s responses to energy retail regulator investigations, compliance and enforcement activity, proactively identifying compliance risks and external developments, and providing visibility to senior management of internal and external regulatory related activity.

The role requires an influential leader, effective at building strong relationships with stakeholders to guide the business to adopt best practice approaches to regulatory compliance, while maintaining a flexible and commercial approach.

What you’ll be doing: (Main key responsibilities)
- Provide effective leadership, mentoring and coaching for direct reports, providing compelling strategic direction and a culture of high performance across the team
- Lead regulator investigations and requests for information (primarily from the Australian Energy Regulator and Essential Services Commission of Victoria), coordinating multiple cross-functional stakeholders to meet mandatory deadlines with a high degree of quality
- Engage with energy regulators to delivery regulatory reporting to meet AGL’s external regulatory compliance reporting obligations, as well as associated internal management reporting for executive/senior management on compliance related matters
- Identifying compliance risks and issues; investigation and reporting of risks at the executive level of the organisation
- Provide compliance expertise and advice on potential compliance incidents
- Develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with key internal stakeholders and external regulator relationships
- Partnering with business stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of new regulatory obligations, and expansion into new activities/markets

About You

What you’ll bring to the table:

- Extensive experience within a legal or compliance management role within the energy retail sector, or a similar, complex industry
- Legal degree or other relevant qualifications in law or compliance management will be well regarded
- Knowledge of the retail energy industry and regulatory frameworks highly desired
- Strong project management skills, including ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders to deliver within tight timeframes in a fast-paced environment
- Outstanding literacy skills and experience in the preparation of written reports or submissions
- Excellent presenting skills, both oral and written, ability to distil complex information to achieve outcomes
- Highly proactive self-starter, who can self-manage time and priorities with a high degree of initiative and attention to detail
