The Child, Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) Senior Social Worker plays a leading role in the provision of a comprehensive range of assessments and treatments for infants, children & adolescents affected by moderate to severe mental health problems. This is a senior clinical role and includes management of complex cases, and the provision of senior clinical supervision, education and support to Social Work and other allied health clinicians within the service.

You will be working with HKH CYMHS based in the Mental Health Community building at Hornsby Hospital.

What you'll be doing

The Child, Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) Senior Social Worker plays a leading role in the provision of a comprehensive range of assessments and treatments for infants, children & adolescents affected by moderate to severe mental health problems. They ensure a high quality of social work service and clinical care is provided to consumer, carers and families accessing the service. To take a senior clinical role in the management of complex cases within the service, maintaining a clinical caseload which will involve direct therapeutic work with children / adolescents, their families/carers and other relevant parties.

In conjunction with the Service Manager and Clinical Lead to participate in the review, evaluation and development of clinical service delivery. To provide senior clinical supervision, education and support to Social Work and other allied health clinicians within the service to ensure high quality clinical care provided to all consumers through a range of individual, family-based and group interventions.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A bachelor or post graduate degree in Social Work and eligibility for the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), including the ability to demonstrate a practical application of the AASW Code of Ethics. Recent, extensive and varied post graduate clinical experience as a level 2 Social Worker or above.
  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and management of adolescents with high acuity mental health issues often presenting with multiple risk factors. Knowledge and expertise in contemporary practices in Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
  • Extensive experience in working with families experiencing significant distress and attachment difficulties in the family system, impacted by multiple psycho-social stressors and/or inter-generational trauma.
  • Demonstrated experience in, leading, initiating, mentoring, completing and presenting quality improvement activities, research and service evaluation process. Extensive experience in clinical teaching and supervision for students and allied health staff.
