About the Role:
Curtin University invites applications for a visionary academic leader to join us as Research Infrastructure Lead. This strategic role will drive the development of cutting-edge research infrastructure for the Climate Action in Transport and Land Use Planning (CATLUP-I) program, delivered through the AURIN WA Node at the Planning and Transport Research Centre (PATREC).
This is a unique opportunity to lead a transformative project that supports Western Australia's climate action agenda through data-driven innovation in transport and urban planning.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Drive the strategic planning, coordination, and delivery of the AURIN WA Node project.
- Lead stakeholder engagement with government agencies (including the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure, Main Roads Western Australia and Western Australian Planning Commission), academic partners, and platform providers.
- Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, interoperable infrastructure aligned with AURIN systems.
- Guide the development of analytical tools and data integration strategies to support climate-related decision-making.
- Champion sustainability planning, capacity building, and long-term impact across research and policy communities.
Who we're looking for – Selection Criteria:
We're seeking a senior academic who meets the following Essential Criteria:
- A PhD in urban planning, data science, geography, transport, environmental science, or a related field.
- Proven leadership in complex research infrastructure or data platform projects.
- Expertise in data science, spatial analysis, and infrastructure for climate or urban research.
- A strong track record of stakeholder engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Familiarity with AURIN, government data systems, and planning support tools (highly desirable).
Role Requirements:
- As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role to be considered.
- Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction
Your new Team – PATREC & AURIN:
PATREC is a collaborative research centre hosted by The University of Western Australia, with active engagement from Curtin University and other institutions. It supports evidence-based policy innovation in transport and land use planning, with a strong focus on climate action and sustainable mobility.
AURIN (Australian Urban Research Infrastructure Network) empowers researchers with critical data and analytical tools to address Australia's urban challenges. The WA Node at PATREC is the first of several national nodes, and this role is central to its success.
