Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Safe Transport Victoria Full time $90,000 - $120,000 per year

About Us
"Safe journeys, every time". This is what we strive for at Safe Transport Victoria (ST Vic).

As the safety regulator for commercial passenger vehicles, buses and maritime, what we do impacts the everyday lives of Victorians. Our role is to work with these industries and the communities they serve to ensure a transport system that inspires confidence for users.

We are focused on creating impact by being an intelligence-led regulator, agile to technological disruptions in the market and highly responsive to community expectations and needs.

We are also in the business of thinking big. We are reimagining what's possible in how we regulate, and we welcome those who are interested in reshaping and redefining how we work.

ST Vic is committed to building a culture of 'working as one'. This means our people share openly, question respectfully and build together. This also means we invest in our people and provide personal and professional development programs to create a workforce that is empowered, innovative and adaptable.

About The Role
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategy and PMO, the Program Manager is responsible for coordinating and tracking the delivery of strategic and operational projects across ST Vic.

This role plays a pivotal function in maintaining oversight of the organisation's project portfolio, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and effective investment of resources. While the Program Manager does not directly manage project teams, you will provide governance, assurance, and reporting to drive delivery confidence and support executive decision-making.

The responsibilities of the Program Manager will include, but are not limited to:

  • Tracking delivery of projects and initiatives, monitoring milestones, benefits and risks.
  • Facilitating governance and assurance processes, including Project Control Groups.
  • Preparing high-quality reporting and dashboards for the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Monitoring project investments, budgets, and value delivery to support decisions.
  • Engaging with sponsors, project leads, and stakeholders to gather insights and support delivery.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of frameworks, tools, and project capability.

About You
You are a skilled program or portfolio coordinator with strong governance and analytical capabilities. You bring demonstrated experience in project reporting, risk management and assurance, with the ability to influence outcomes without direct authority.

You will be confident engaging stakeholders at all levels, synthesising complex data into clear reporting, and applying a systems-thinking approach to align projects with organisational goals. Adaptable and improvement-focused, you thrive in fast-paced environments and are motivated to uplift project delivery capability across the organisation.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in program or portfolio coordination within complex or public sector environments (mandatory).
  • Familiarity with project governance frameworks and tools such as PRINCE2, PMBoK, or MSP (desirable).
  • Tertiary qualifications in project management, business, or public administration (desirable).
