ABOUT MURRI WATCH
Murri Watch Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation is a not-for-profit organisation incorporated under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 ('the CATSI Act').
Murri Watch is dedicated to:
• Reducing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander deaths and self-harm in custody by promoting the physical, cultural, economic, and social well-being of our community.
• Leading in culturally proficient and community-sensitive services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals vulnerable to contact with the police, affected by public drunkenness, watch-house detention, youth detention, homelessness, or at risk of homelessness.
• Ensuring continuity of care through specialised skills in engagement, assessment, creative interventions, and navigating human services support systems.
Murri Watch was initially established in response to the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody. We continue our commitment to reducing the over-representation of First Nations people in the criminal justice system and to supporting people who are homeless, rough sleeping and transitioning to stable housing.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
An opportunity exists for an Administration Officer at Murri Watch Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation to Work collaboratively with the Head Office and other members of Murri Watch to develop, implement, and manage administrative processes.
The objectives of the Administration Officer are to:
- Managing a high volume of inbound Calls from across the state
- Providing general information in response to enquiries and refer to appropriate internal stakeholders when required in an accurate and timely manner
- Schedule and prepare meeting rooms, materials and equipment as required
- Provide support to various departments as needed
- Organise venues and catering for meetings, training sessions & events as required
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
• Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
• Sound interpersonal skills including experience in conflict resolution, liaising, networking, and negotiating outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with a range of community, government, and non-government service providers.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft programs including Teams, Word, and Outlook and data entry skills.
• Strong organisational skills including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines whilst displaying high attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
