About the Role
The Assistant Manager will play a key role in supporting daily operations, customer service excellence, sales performance, and team leadership at a busy Sydney branch. Working closely with the Branch Manager, this position is ideal for someone ready to step up, take on more responsibility, and develop into a future branch leader. The role combines hands-on operational tasks with commercial oversight, ensuring the branch runs smoothly and meets its targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Branch Manager with leading, mentoring, and motivating a diverse team across sales, warehouse, and administration.
- Contribute to achieving branch sales, margin, and profitability targets through strong customer engagement and proactive sales support.
- Support inventory management, stock ordering, logistics coordination, and warehouse operations to maintain efficient workflows.
- Provide exceptional customer service, building strong relationships with trade customers and identifying opportunities to grow accounts.
- Oversee daily operational tasks including cash handling, reporting, scheduling, and compliance adherence.
- Step in to manage the branch during periods of absence, demonstrating leadership and decision-making confidence.
- Assist with training new staff, supporting performance management processes, and contributing to a positive team culture.
- Monitor market activity and product trends, providing insights to improve product offerings and operational efficiency.
Skills & Experience Required
- Experience in trade, building materials, construction supplies, or a similar customer-focused industry.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with customers and team members.
- Solid understanding of branch or store operations, including inventory and logistics.
- Leadership potential, confident leading small teams, delegating tasks, and resolving issues.
- Commercial awareness with an interest in developing sales and operational capability.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, hands-on approach and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Salary and Benefits
Base $90-$105k | 12% Super | Company Car | Commission
