Job and Person

About the Role:

The Mental Health Officer is responsible for the provision of high-level customer service and administrative/operational support to clients, staff, and internal and external stakeholders of Sonder in a confidential, proficient, and friendly manner. This dual-role position is also designed to support psychology or social work students seeking meaningful exposure to community-based mental health services. In addition to administrative responsibilities, the role provides structured opportunities to observe and contribute to mental health program delivery within a supported, recovery-oriented environment, helping to build foundational knowledge and skills relevant to future practice in mental health or community settings.

Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team
  • Experience within the health or community services sector (desirable)

Administrative and Organisational Skills ·

  • Ability to manage reception duties, respond to inquiries, and coordinate appointment schedules accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel) and client information systems (or a demonstrated ability to learn quickly).

Communication and Interpersonal Skills ·

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with clients, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of the South Australian mental health sector, systems, and referral pathways.

Qualification and Other Requirements:

  • Completion of at least two (2) years of tertiary-level study in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
  • Current or willing to obtain a Working with Children's Check (WWCC)
  • National Police Clearance
