About the Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a College Counsellor to join St Columba College. The College Counsellor supports the social, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of students, fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment. The Counsellor works collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals to promote positive mental health, resilience, and personal growth across the College community.

Your Responsibilities:

• Advise and counsel staff regarding situations affecting the welfare of students and their ongoing educational and pastoral needs.
• Lead the development and implementation of student wellbeing intervention program.
• Provide individual and small group counselling for all students and others within the school community, as applicable, relating to trauma, grief, loss, anger management and other needs.
• Make home visits with at least one other staff member to provide support to students at risk where needed.
• Be a member of the College's Trauma Response Team and advise and assist as required, including organising and distributing the appropriate response, resources and personnel for critical incidents.

About You:

• A Diploma of Counselling (or equivalent) and demonstrated knowledge and/or comprehensive experience working in a comparable role, particularly with children and young people, including those with special needs.
• Current registration and/or membership of a relevant and recognised professional organisation/registration body as required by legislation.
• High level interpersonal skills to interact positively with the school community and be a positive role model and professional representative.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and able to work collaboratively within a team environment.
• Willingness to actively and positively uphold and contribute to the culture and ethos of the College.

The successful candidates will be required to undergo our screening process, which includes a Working with Children Check, E-Screen, Applicant Declaration Form and RHAN.
