About the role:

The Senior Housing Policy and Support Officer supports LALCs in achieving regulatory compliance and effective contract management by developing and reviewing housing policies, overseeing tenancy systems and providing capacity-building training.

Key Outcomes / Accountabilities for the Senior Housing Policy and Support Officer are summarised as follows but are not limited to:

  • Support the Team Leader in delivering the objectives of NSWALC's Housing Support Strategy.
  • Enhance housing outcomes, reduce risks, and improve operational sustainability across the LALC network.
  • Cross-team collaboration with Performance Quality & Improvement Team (PQIT) and NSWALC Zones, ensuring alignment with broader organisational strategies and programs.
  • Develop and review compliance policies and procedures collaboratively with LALCs and stakeholders to reflect best practice and regulatory frameworks.

  • Assist LALCs in strengthening tenancy management systems and practices through partnership and support.

  • Develop and provide training and capacity building initiatives tailored to meet the needs of LALC Boards and staff to enhance housing-related compliance, governance, and operational effectiveness.

  • Assist LALCs in understanding and monitoring contractor performance, supporting them to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and service standards.

  • Monitor compliance trends and share insights to inform continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Criteria:

  • Aboriginality – Identified position under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
  • Proven experience in engaging and working effectively with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of housing compliance, tenancy management, and governance principles.
  • Experience in delivering training and capacity building tailored to diverse community and organisational contexts.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to facilitate training and knowledge transfer effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving regulatory environments with a solutions-focused approach.

Desirable:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Housing, Business Management, Public Administration, or related discipline.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983 (ALRA) and housing related regulatory frameworks.
