Brisbane, Queensland, Australia Boeing Defence Australia Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is shaping the future of aerospace and delivering some of the nation's most important programs for the Australian Defence Force. We are leaders in Defence Industry, delivering cutting edge technology to our customers and proactively solving challenges posed by the complex and ever-changing Defence landscape.

BDA's Operations team is looking for an experienced Project Manager to support the delivery of an upgrade and fit out of a secure facility, in line with Australian Government and Defence  security policies and guidelines. This role presents a unique opportunity to lead initiatives that enhance our organisation's security posture, ensuring resilience against evolving threats and enhanced delivery of operations to our Defence and other global customers. As a Project Manager within the Operations team, you will have the opportunity to drive meaningful projects that enhance efficiency and uplift capability delivery across the broader Boeing Enterprise.

You will oversee the full lifecycle of this critical infrastructure program, ensuring security, compliance, cost, schedule and quality targets are met. The successful candidate will act as a key interface between Defence customers, Boeing internal stakeholders, and external contractors to capture requirements and deliver outcomes that meet or exceed expectations.

This opportunity will allow you to engage with many stakeholders, across the business and across multiple levels. You'll be pragmatic and solutions-driven, an excellent communicator, highly organised, with the ability to forward plan, demonstrate leadership, and manage contractors closely. Applicants with experience leading facility builds and fit outs, coupled with a working knowledge of Defence's secure zone accreditation processes will be strongly considered.

You'll be able to further grow and develop your skills through a supportive team and structured learning opportunities, tap into a wide network of subject matter experts (SME), and contribute meaningfully to advising and mentoring others around you.

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen and hold, or have the ability to obtain a minimum NV-2 Australian Defence security clearance.

The location for this role is Brisbane CBD.

Responsibilities

Project planning and execution activities, such as:

  • Lead the planning and end-to-end execution of a secure facility fit-out program, ensuring alignment with Australian Government, Defence security and network infrastructure frameworks and Boeing governance standards.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Defence representatives to capture operational and security requirements, translating these into technical and physical construction outcomes.
  • Direct and coordinate Boeing internal teams, external contractors, consultants, and suppliers, ensuring clear accountability and delivery against agreed milestones.
  • Oversee procurement, contract management, construction, commissioning, and accreditation activities.
  • Establish and maintain robust governance frameworks including schedules, budgets, risk registers, compliance matrices, and assurance measures.
  • Proactively manage project risks, issues, and changes, escalating where required to safeguard Defence capability outcomes.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting to Boeing senior leadership and Defence program authorities.
  • Drive adherence to WHS, environmental, security, and quality standards across all project phases.

Project governance activities, such as:

  • Presenting data and being accountable for project performance at project management, and leadership reviews.
  • Developing and maintaining a robust change preparedness and management process, to ensure all stakeholders are across changes, including time, cost and quality, and ensuring the business is ready for the change.
  • Developing and presenting data at various BDA governance councils and steering committees.
  • Contributing to opportunities for process improvement.
  • Engaging and influencing stakeholders across the business, at multiple levels to ensure accountability of actions and deliverables.

Essential experience/Qualifications

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) delivering large-scale secure facility, infrastructure, or fit-out projects in Defence or similarly regulated industries.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or equivalent.
  • Project management qualifications or certifications (Diploma, PMP, Prince2, AIPM CPPM etc.).
  • Demonstrated record of working closely with Defence (or equivalent) stakeholders to ensure operational and compliance requirements are met.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Government and Defence secure zone standards (environments, physical security, ICT segregation etc.).
  • Advanced project management capability, including governance, scheduling, cost control, risk management, communication and reporting.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills, with experience briefing senior officials and handling sensitive information.
  • Proven experience managing contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and multi-disciplinary technical teams.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a Defence prime contractor environment.
  • Experience in ICT/communications and electronic security infrastructure delivery in secure environments.
  • Familiarity with Defence Security and Estate Group (SEG), Joint Capabilities Group (JCG) and Defence Digital Group (DDG) standards and processes.
