  • Salary: $113,022 - $136,747 per annum (Pro Rata) Plus superannuation
  • Fixed-Term position for 12 months
  • Usual hours of work: Part-time (0.6 FTE) - 3 x days per week
  • Usual work location: 1 Spring Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 (Flexibility available)

The Role

As a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator, you will coordinate the planning and implementation of the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA)'s health, safety and wellbeing (HSW) framework and program, and leads the day-to-day HSW activities across the organisation including preventative and reactive strategies, policies, procedures and actions. This role drives a safety culture across the organisation and manages the safety management system and subsequent reporting requirements.

Key accountabilities include:

  1. Partnering with Executive and Line Management to develop, review and maintain the VFA's Health and Wellbeing Program and OHS framework, including maintaining and implementing the OHS strategic plan, while demonstrating VFA's commitment to safety first and the development of a high-performing safety culture.
  2. Reviewing and implementing strategies, policies, procedures, programs and frameworks to proactively meet VFA's responsibilities, address psychosocial hazards and support workplace mental health.
  3. Leading the development and implementation of the VFA's safety management system and managing safety systems, SOP's and processes on a day-to-day basis.
  4. Supporting and coordinating relevant committees and designated workgroups.
  5. Measuring, monitoring and analysing safety performance with results regularly reported internally and externally including presentations to the Board and its People & Safety Committee. This includes:

  6. Developing, monitoring and reporting on performance metrics and targets at an organisational, divisional and team level

  7. Producing safety performance reports
  8. Planning, coordinating and monitoring safety and compliance audit results

  9. Working alongside People and Culture personnel and Management on matters relating to 'return to work' and WorkCover, both physical and mental.

  10. Providing strategic advice to Management to inform the alignment of planning and programs to the OHS Strategic Plan.
  11. Managing key projects to support the improved outcomes of safety and wellbeing across the VFA.
  12. Monitoring the VFA safety risks and controls to support managers in complying with the requirement to control risks.
  13. Working with VFA and other Department facilities staff to consult, provide advice and recommendations on identified OHS risks at our sites.
  14. Engaging with staff to drive an organisational culture that prioritises safety in their daily activities.

The Team

The position of Health, Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator will work within People and Culture branch, which sits within the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA) group.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to educate and influence line managers in all HSW requirements, systems, processes and activities, ideally in a similar organisation with regionally based offices and outdoor field workers.
  • Proven experience in an HSW coordination or management role and developing and implementing HSW management plans and systems (eg: policies, SOP's and work instructions).
  • Experience in reporting against HSW performance measures such as incidents, near misses and LTI's and identifying trends and risks over time to Executive and Board Management to develop appropriate cultural and procedural responses ensuring compliance.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to deal with staff at all levels encouraging others to always act safely and to "call out" unsafe behaviour, conditions and practices.
  • Well-developed project management skills including developing and managing complex projects with the involvement of stakeholders across government sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, agile and adapt to needs and responsibilities to best assist the VFA.
