Gladstone Airport Corporation is responsible for the development and operation of the Gladstone Airport, ensuring safe and secure travel connections that contribute to the economic and social fabric of Gladstone and the wider Central Queensland region.

Gladstone Airport Corporation operates and maintains the airport asset both airside and landside, including the airside movement areas, passenger terminal building, tenanted buildings, car park and gardens.

A practical self-driven person who has high attention to detail, that can work independently and cooperatively as part of the wider Gladstone Airport team.

You have a passion for transferring specific compliance-related information into tangible and practical formats that all users can implement to improve communication and collaboration across stakeholder groups. Your experience or training will allow you to quickly understand various legislation pertinent to Gladstone Airport and help implement those requirements to improve regulatory compliance across the airport community.

You will be safety-focused, practical, organised and a team player who possess high energy to drive improvements across the organisation.

The Role

The Compliance Support Officer (CSO) assists the Compliance Manager (CM) in ensuring the Airport's operational, regulatory and compliance activities and processes are effectively implemented and maintained.

Maintaining the internal operational reporting and document management systems, ensuring data is current and pertinent.

Standard work days are Monday to Friday, with a minimum 20 hours per week up to 37 hours per week - we're open to flexible arrangements for the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply relevant aviation safety and security regulations and internal operational procedures across GAC operations
  • Assist in the administration of a robust airport audit program to identify if legal requirements are being met and identify areas for improvement
  • Assist in the coordination of emergency, security and safety exercises in accordance with regulatory requirements
  • Assist in the coordination of operational safety and security committees, keeping relevant minutes and lists of findings to be actioned
  • Assist with the provision of written board, operational and regulator reports to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist drafting responses to various regulators including but not limited to CASA, ATSB and CISC as required
  • In conjunction with the Compliance Manager & Airport Operations Coordinator, assist with the coordination and response to annual ATI, OLS and AVSEC audits
  • Ensure all published information pertinent to airport operations is current and correct, this includes but is not limited to ERSA, AIP and OLS charts
  • Represent GAC at networking and industry forums as required
  • Review internal procedures, SOP's and the integrated management system to assure currency and best practices are delivered
  • Provide data metrics on safety incidents, breaches and non-compliances to both the GAC Board of Directors (the Board) and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The successful applicant will possess:

  • Good understanding of relevant Acts, Regulations and Standards that relate to operation of an airport in Australia, or ability to obtain
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field of Aviation or Safety OR at least 2 years' experience in Airport Operations and/or Security (desirable)
  • Qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety OR Training and Assessing OR Incident Management (highly desirable)
  • Audit and process improvement experience
  • High level of competency in MS Office suite of products (required)
  • Experience managing and implementing operational management software (desirable)
  • Aerodrome Reporting Officer and Works Safety Officer Certificate (desirable)
  • Current Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC), or ability to obtain
  • Current Manual C-Class Drivers' License (required)
  • CASA Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC), or ability to obtain
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or ability to obtain
  • Passenger security screening experience (desirable)

Key Relationships

  • The CSO reports directly to the Compliance Manager, who in turn reports to the General Manager of Operations, the CEO and the Board through the Risk and Compliance Committee
  • The CSO works closely with the airside operations and assets teams
  • Ongoing periodic liaison with primary regulators, CASA, CISC, ATSB and the local Council authority
  • Works closely with airport stakeholders including the ground handling agent, local operators, itinerant operators, airport contractors, customers, tenants and community members
  • Collaborates with emergency services personnel including Aviation Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS), Queensland Police Service (QPS) and other pertinent emergency services agencies

Experience within airport operations and compliance is highly desirable, however GAC is prepared to invest the time in training the right person who can demonstrate they possess the professional and personal attributes that would allow the applicant to quickly acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to become a productive member of the operations team.
