National Skills and Training Officer
If you have experience, knowledge and skills with Australian skills, training and apprenticeships policy and systems, and you want to put this to practical use for manufacturing workers, then we want to hear from you.
The skills of AMWU members are vital to securing the future of Australian manufacturing. From fitters, boilermakers and mechanics through to technicians, process workers and administrative workers – and many more – AMWU members are creating, building and maintaining the products we all rely on to live a good life.
Securing the integrity of our trades and occupations is core work of the AMWU. Robust and transparent systems for recognition of qualifications, classification of work and progression frameworks ensure that AMWU members are recognised and rewarded for the important work they do.
AMWU members are also campaigning for fair and equitable pay for apprentices, along with consistent minimum standards to ensure training quality. This includes keeping apprentices 'on the tools' – learning their trades on-the-job with skilled tradespeople.
Our Organisation
The Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) is a progressive trade Union dedicated to advancing the rights and wellbeing of manufacturing workers and their communities. AMWU members work in the metals trades, printing, paper industry, vehicle industry, food and confectionery industry as well as technical trades and professions.
At AMWU we are driven by our values. We are democratic, inclusive, fair and respectful; we do what we say; and we work strategically, standing together as one to deliver outcomes for members. We pride ourselves on bold member-led campaigns that effect real change and build workers' power.
The AMWU is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations people, women, people with disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and LGBTIQ+ people.
