What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the Research Co-Ordinator (RC) - Infectious Diseases is to support and co-ordinate research undertaken by the SCH-RaPID team: The Randwick Paediatric Infectious Diseases (RaPID) research group. The role will be based within the Infectious Diseases Department, Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick.

Responsibilities include:
i. Coordinating participant enrolment and follow-up for recruiting interventional clinical trials, commensurate with the nature of these trials and protocol requirements
ii. Budget and financial management for departmental studies
iii. Surveillance and data entry for research and quality improvement projects.
iv. Assisting with ethics and governance submissions and conduct of studies performed within the department.

The RC will demonstrate and apply knowledge in all aspects of study co-ordination and project management, including being responsible for identifying relevant patients for both observational and interventional studies our department participates in (and leads). This includes participant screening, obtaining and/or facilitating consent for enrolment, collection of clinical information and biological specimens (where relevant), data entry and participant
follow-up. The RC will also liaise with coordinating institutions and sponsors of the clinical trials our department is involved in, with the support of the site primary investigator. Other duties which support research and surveillance activities may be required, including drafting reports or assisting with data analysis or grant applications.

About the SCH-RaPID team: The Randwick Paediatric Infectious Diseases (RaPID) research group is the clinical research arm of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick and is affiliated with the University of New South Wales, Faculty of Medicine & Health. Our clinicians hold joint academic positions and are involved with a broad range of clinical trials, observational studies, surveillance and laboratory-based studies. Our research aims to improve prevention, management and outcomes of children with common childhood infections. We work collaboratively with other tertiary and non-tertiary paediatric hospitals, academic institutions and research institutes both nationally and internationally.

  1. Qualifications in a relevant field (public health, biomedical and health sciences, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, or other related discipline) or equivalent relevant research experience.
  2. Excellent organisational and planning skills with demonstrated experience in project management.
  3. Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to be an effective team member in a demanding and high-volume work environment.
  4. Ability to perform some protocol specific assessments delivery of questionnaires and/or basic observations or simple clinical investigations, commensurate with experience and/or appropriate training.
  5. Understanding of ICH- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and experience in the use of a Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS).
  6. Demonstrated experience in conducting primary research activities including literature reviews, preparation and management of regulatory (ethics and governance) applications, participant recruitment, data collection, and data analysis.
  7. Demonstrated experience with quantitative research, including data entry and analysis and qualitative research (such as preparing for and conducting interviews and/or focus groups); commensurate with skill level and experience. Alternatively, a keen interest in undertaking training to attain these skills
