First Nations Caseworker – Doorways Program

Dubbo, New South Wales, Australia Uniting NSW & ACT Full time $70,000 - $120,000 per year

**About the Role

This is a full-time permanent opportunity working 5 days / week and will be based at Uniting's Youth Services Hub in West Dubbo**

We're seeking a First Nations Caseworker to join our dedicated team in Dubbo. You'll be part of a connected, positive and resilient team who work in collaboration, and lift each other up.

Every day is different. Some young people need immediate support, such as a safe place to stay, food, or a risk and safety plan. Others are supported over time with case management, independent living skills, and pathways into secure accommodation. Caseworkers also assist with practical, everyday needs such as gaining a licence, learning cooking skills, reconnecting with work or study, and navigating housing and Centrelink systems.

The Doorways program supports young people, with the goal of helping them move into safe and sustainable accommodation. The team works closely with services including Link2Home, youth refuges, housing providers, and other local organisations.

About you in the role

  • Intake and assessment, including walk-ins and assigned intake days
  • Applying a no wrong door approach to ensure young people receive the support they need
  • Conducting risk assessments and safety planning
  • Providing ongoing case management that centres the young person's voice, with case plans reviewed every 3 months
  • Supporting young people to build skills for independent living and successful accommodation
  • Partnering with external services and housing providers to ensure wraparound support
  • Outreach travel to Wellington one day per week

You'll also receive monthly one-to-one supervision, group supervision, and continuous learning opportunities, including specialist conferences and training.

About You

This is an identified Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent (Section 14(d), Anti-Discrimination Act 1977).

  • Strong teamwork skills and a collaborative spirit
  • Confidence in administration and case management systems (e.g. CIMS)
  • Positive energy and a capacity to build trust and rapport with young people
  • Experience working with young men is highly desirable
  • A NSW Working with Children Check and current Driver Licence

Why Work at Uniting?
